KTS students/learners receive individual guidance and support and their training programmes are as individually designed as we can get them to be. In a friendly, relaxed environment our young people are encouraged to learn, to enjoy their time with us and to look forward positively to the challenge of the world of work.
Below is an overview of the programmes we run – for more information please click on the appropriate link on the left hand side.
The Apprenticeship Programme
A practical approach is the key to the success of this programme – each Apprentice is working with an employer and earning a salary whilst training. An NVQ at level 2 or 3, Key Skills and a Technical Certificate combine to make up the Apprenticeship ‘framework’.
Why an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships have become a popular alternative to 6th form or further education and in 2008/09 240,000 young people started an Apprenticeship whilst the completion rate rose to more than 70%.
This demonstrates that not only do employers understand the value of Apprenticeships but that young people are realising that an Apprenticeship is a great way to begin a successful career.
Entry to Employment (e2e)
The Entry to Employment (e2e) programme is run at all 3 of our centres, Kingswood, Southmead and Yate and allows young people, many of whom have not done well at school to achieve nationally recognised qualifications, whilst building confidence and self esteem. Social and other essential skills are all part of the overall package which is designed to equip our students for their future working life.
Some of the qualifications available on Entry to Employment are:
- Functional Skills
- Certificate in Adult Literacy
- Certificate in Adult Numeracy
- ASDAN employability qualification
- ASDAN personal and social development qualification
- Key Skills
- A range of ICT qualifications
- First Aid Certificate
In addition students may achieve certificates relevant to their career choice such as CSCS card, CBT qualification etc
All young people on Entry to Employment qualify for an Education Maintenance Allowance of £30 per week providing they attend regularly and adhere to the code of conduct. In addition they can qualify for bonuses for achieving qualifications.
